Limnonectes:
tawauensis
Tawau Fanged Frog
Limnonectes tawauensis is endemic to Sabah. This species is medium-sized- Adults measure approx. 49 mm in males and 51 mm in females from snout to vent. The head is medium-sized. The first finger is slightly longer than second.
The skin is conspicuously structured: dorsal skin scattered with warts, from which networks of wrinkles originate and go in all directions. A key feature of the species is the tibia that is dorsally densely covered by large pointed warts and intervening minute warts. Dorsally the species is scattered with some warts and is unspectacularly brown to olive brown with faint dark markings in coloration.
The outer edge oft the hird finger bears a freely movable, narrow ridge sof skin. The tip of the third finger forms a small disk, the width of which is not much wider than basal phalanx. The tip of the fourth toe is swollen into small disk, which is wider than basal phalanx; fourth toe disk wider than third finger disk. The fourth toe is broadly webbed to the disk; inner and outer webbing of fourth toe are somenwhat excised.
Note that the specimen in the images is tentatively ascribed to the species based on the locality Tawau. It has not been barcoded for further confirmation. The specimen was from the low altitudes of the park.
