Limnonectes

paramacrodon

Lesser Swamp Frog

Limnonectes paramacrodon is a forest frog of primary forest with swampy areas.

The species is smaller than leporinus, the black area behind the eye is bigger, covering the eardrum with a diamond shape, and the snout is longer and more pointed in profile. The belly and thigh underside are pale or bright yellow.

Males grow up to 75 mm, females 65 mm.

Almost nothing is known about the reproductive behavior of this species. Until recently tadpoles were unknow. We discovered them in almost stagnant pools of a intermittent forest stream (DNA matched). In general appearance, the tadpoles are similar to leporinus and malesianus tadpoles. The tail length and shape are different and a streak at the base of the tail is missing. A reddish-brown band goes across the iris.
