Penrissen Fanged Frog
Matsui et al. 2024 reported the species from the name-giving type locality at Gunung Penrissen. There it is sympatric with Limnonectes conspicillatus from which it is distinguished by relatively wider digital disks.
The general diagnosis of this species is: Adult males average 58 mm in snout-vent length. The dorsal side of the tibia has ridges of wrinkles and small, low warts that are limited to the distal region. The first finger is longer than the second. The tip of the third finger forms a large disk that is wider than the basal phalanx. The tip of the fourth toe is swollen into a large disk that is much wider than the basal phalanx. The fourth toe is broadly webbed up to the disk. The head is medium-sized, the forelimbs are short, and the hindlimbs are long. The tibia is also long. The dorsal skin features a network of wrinkles running in all directions, with only fine warts present around the anus. The outer edges of the second and third fingers have freely movable, narrow ridges of skin. The disk on the fourth toe is much wider than the disk on the third finger. The inner and outer webbing of the fourth toe is slightly excised. The chest is dark brown with a cream-colored reticulated pattern. The abdomen and the ventral sides of the limbs are cream-colored, dusted with brown.
The natural history of this species is virtually unknown.
