nusantara
Nusantara Creek Frog
Limnonectes nusantara was described by Gonggoli et al. (2025). The species is of medium size, with a snout–vent length ranging from 52.3 to 70.6 mm in males and 51.6 to 61.3 mm in females. It occurs in forested areas of the Meratus Mountain Range, southeast Kalimantan, Indonesia, at mid-level altitudes from 177 to 1000 m a.s.l. It is found in primary and secondary forests as well as disturbed areas. Specimens commonly perch along small forest streams or rocks of leaves, up to 2 m from the water.
The species can be diagnosed by a combination of characters according to the original publication: The toes are fully webbed, and the tympanum is not externally visible, hidden. The dorsal skin of the body is weakly rugose, while the dorsal surface of the tibia is densely covered with small warts interspersed with a few low, larger warts. A well-developed and movable flap of skin is present on the outer side of the third finger. The webbing on both the inner and outer sides of the fourth toe is fairly well excised. The disk of the third finger is only slightly wider than the basal phalanx, whereas the disk of the fourth toe is distinctly wider than the basal phalanx. In males, the nuptial pad on the first finger lacks minute asperities. The head is longer than it is wide, and the throat is marked with small, irregular dark gray blotches.
