abanghamidi

Abang's Fanged Frog

The type locality of this species is the Bukit Lanjak range and specifically Sungai Jelak, 250 m asl. According to Matsui et al. (2024) the species is sympatric with L. lanjakensis and L. kong. Distinguishing features, however, were only given for L. kong, which has a narrower disk of the fourth toe and a smaller ratio of the disk of the third finger to the base of Finger III. These features are probably difficult to assess in the field. Morphological differences to L. lanjakensis were not mentioned by the author.

Limnonectes abanghamidi a small "kuhlii"-group species, with females averaging 45 mm in SVL. The back is light brown with dark brown markings on the sides, irregularly on the back, and between the eyes.

Furthermore, the species can be told apart from its relatives in the "kuhlii"-group by having a first finger that’s as long as the second, and the outer edge of the third finger has non-movable, narrow skin ridges. The fourth toe is broadly webbed up to the disk. The inner and outer webbing of the fourth toe isn’t much cut out. The head is short, and both the forelimbs and hindlimbs are medium in length, as is the tibia. The dorsal skin is very folded, with networks of wrinkles going in all directions, but there are few warts. The wrinkles are very weak on the eyelid, and the top of the head and snout are almost smooth. The surface of the tibia is coarsely covered with wrinkles. The tip of the third finger forms a moderate-sized disk, slightly wider than the base of the phalanx. The tip of the fourth toe is swollen into a large disk, much wider than the base of the phalanx; this disk is much wider than the third finger disk.
