The archaic familiy of Firebelly Toads, Bombinatoridae, contains only nine species worldwide; two of them occur in the Sunda Region. Seven species are known within the genus Bombina, which is found on mainland Eurasia. Species in this family have retained many character states that are considered plesiomorphic for the Anura (frogs) in general.

The genus Barbourula contains two species, one of which is recorded for the island Borneo, i.e., Barbourula kalimantanensis
