Bornean Families
Genus: Rhacophorus
Rhacophorus
Parachuting Frogs
A large group of Asian tree frogs with many species all over southern and southeastern Asia. Initially taxonomists subsumed even more species of Asian tree frogs under the genus Rhacophorus but in recent decades several new genera have been proposed to represent genetic, morphological and ecological differences among subgroups and the genus Rhacophorus is currently more strictly applied (see Amphibian Species of the World).
Borneo has some beautiful and iconic representatives, such as the large R. nigropalmatus. The genus is easily distinguished from members of the genus Polypedates by, for example, their more developed hand webbing and tadpole morphology.
