Pelophryne

Dwarf Toads

Currently more than a dozen species are recognized in the genus (see ASW), however, more discoveries are expected in the future.

Species of Pelophryne are small toads, often below 35 mm in length. They are relatively slender and most species possess long extremities in relation to body length. The webbing typically is fleshy. Toe and finger tips are expanded. All these features are in association with excellent climbing capabilities. Typically these toads are encountered on vegetation, tree trunks etc. Striding is the usual way of locomotion and jumping is chosen only if the situation requires.
