Ingerophrynus

Asian Forest Toads

Currently, approximately a dozen species are recognized in this genus (ASW). Their distribution extends from southern China and Indochina westward to Myanmar, and includes Peninsular Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo, Java, Nias Island, Sulawesi, and the Philippines. The genus Ingerophrynus is the sister taxon of Sabahphrynus. The generic name honors the US American herpetologist Robert F. Inger. The common name Forest Toads that we use here expresses the habitat preference of the Bornean species I. divergens, which is found in natural forest and avoids open logged areas or agricultural land.
