Bush Frogs

Bush Frogs are a diverse group of mostly small frogs. Although positively proven only for few species, it is assumed that most species have direct development (no free swimming larva) and are independent from bodies water for reproduction. This group of frogs has been subject to various taxonomic changes recently and stability has not reached. Currently there are more than three dozen species under the genus.

The name Bush Frogs refers to the fact that all species are good climbers on vegetation. The fingers and toes terminated in adhesive disks that let them hold on to leaves and bark. The pupil is elliptical and horizontal. Some species are remarkably variable in color and color patterns. This can make Bush Frogs species difficult to identify in the field.
