Kaloula

Asian Bullfrogs

Species of the genus Kaloula are small to medium size, terrestrial or arboreal microhylid frogs with plump bodies. The tips of fingers and toes are expanded and increase adhesion when climbing. The English name refers to the loud, deep voice of some of the bullfrogs. Species of this genus have a wide distribution in southeastern Asia. More than a dozen species are known but research has uncovered that more species need to be distinguished based on genetics, morphology, and ecology.
