Kurixalus chaseni

Kurixalus chaseni was removed from synonymy with K. appendiculatus (Mediyansyah et. al. 2019; Truebia 46, 51–72). K. appendiculatus is now restricted to frogs outside Borneo, particularly Philippines. The Bornean K. chaseni is a very common lowland species in East Mlaysia. It lives in swampy areas with bodies of standing water or intermittent streams. This species seem to be ecologically adaptable and can be found in the forest and in forest edge situations.

The coloration is variable, with shades of brown, grey, and green, and mimics a tree's bark. Day and night coloration are different. Size is usually less than 40 mm in males and up to 50 mm in females.

Males call from around swampy areas or ponds with sand-silt bottom. The call has soft clicks. The tadpoles of this species are small, they grow up to only 25 mm total length. In size and general body shape they resemble a bufonid tadpole, but differ from bufonids in mouthpart keratodont rows. The generalist type tadpoles live in stagnant water. The tail tip is moderately pointed. The iris has a coppery hue.
