Staurois latopalmatus lives in medium to large rocky streams, especially in rapids. During the night males call from boulders in the stream with a short high frequency trill.

The legs are very strong; an excellent jumper that can skip from rock to rock across the stream.

Maximum size is 50 mm in males and 70 mm in females.

Details of the reproductive behavior have not been observed and the tadpole of this species is still unknown.
