Pelophryne rhopophilia

Lowland Dwarf Toad

Pelophryne rhopophilia has rarely been documented. From what is known, this species seems restricted to West Sarawak and adjacent West Kalimantan. Males are in the range of 20-25 mm snout-vent length, females are larger.

The body is slender. Finger tips are truncate. The dorsal background color is dark brown with ligher areas forming a X shape on back of trunk. There is a quite sharp line between the dark parts dorsally and the white or cream belly. The belly is not completely white or cream, but bears black spots. The skin is warty and larger warts may be red. Warts bear a small keratine spine. The fingers are truncate and the webbing is fleshy.
