Rentapia hosii

Hose’s Tree Toad

Rentapia hosii is a mid-size toad. Because it is a toad with climbing capabilities, it is rarely seen, except when adults come to rivers for breeding.

The fingers are long and end in adhesive pads. The skin is soft and dry.

Adult males 50–80 mm snout-vent length, females 90–105 mm.

The tadpoles of Rentapia hosii are still mysterious to us, because we have not seen them in the field yet, despite the presence of breeding aggregations of adults.

As many other bufonid tadpoles, Pedostibes tadpoles are rather small. That may account for the difficulties to see them in the wild. Also, they might prefer a certain microhabitat we have not searched systematically yet. More research is needed.

The image of the tadpole on this page show a specimen from a successful captive breeding.
