Ansonia latidisca

Sambas Slender Toad

Ansonia latidisca is an enigmatic toad from West Sarawak in mid elevations at Gunung Penrissen, the type locality of this species. It has rarely been seen and scientifically studied.

Among the species in the Genus, Ansonia latidisca is the most colorful one and a fairly large species, measuring up to 50 mm snout-vent length. The color pattern is very distinct: brown sharply delimited markings are in contrast with the green-yellowish background. Warts on the dorsum bear bright red tips.

The finger tips are dilated and triangular, whereas toe tips are rather small and round. Similar to some other Ansonia species, legs and arms are long in relation to body length.

Males call from trunks of big trees or perch on vegetation. The reproductive behavior and other habits of this species are unknown.
