Rough Toads / River Toads
Two big Asian toads, P. aspera and P. juxtaspera, are subsumed under the genus.
Both species have a strong skin bear big warts with keratinized tips. These toads can secrete large amounts of strong, milky toxin and precaution must be taken, when handling them. Both species depend on rivers for reproduction, but at least P. asper has also been found in the forest at quite some distance from the nearest stream.
