Metaphrynella
sundana
is a common frog in primary and secondary
rainforest of the lowlands and hilly terrain up to
ca. 700 m asl.
It is a small frog (up to 30 mm) with tuberculate skin texture and considerable variation in coloration and texture. The toe pads are expanded and make it a good climber. It also jumps well despite the stocky appearance, but normally prefers to walk.

Males call from tree hole or other suitable
phytothelmes such as bamboo internodia. Males call
with a piping note, emitted at regular slow
intervals. The males are able to adjust their call
to the resonanz frequency of the tree hole they are
calling from. Obviously that maximizes
attractiveness to females that approach the hole
for reproduction.
Despite the abundance of the species, we have not found tadpoles so far and scientific descriptions of tadpoles do not exist.
